MADEMOISELLE IN FRANCE - II

That the peak I had learnt about, on the banks of Lake Geneve belonged to another country was a golden revelation while planning this journey. Perhaps the catch that the Mont Blanc in France is visible even from Switzerland had eluded me, back in 2016, during my first visit to Switzerland. But arriving here and ambling in the vicinity of the peak, which a kind Swiss local had pointed to, from the shores of lake Geneve, left me spellbound. It was no longer just a speck of snow on a distant summit, but an endless range of mammoth mountains rising all around! My wonder must have been evident to my friend Ovya throughout the arduous hike to Lac Blanc. At least, her own, seemed very much like a reflection of mine! Little mountain goats and ibexes also kept us company and we all munched merrily on the abundant blue berries along the trail.

HOW TO GET TO THE LAC BLANC

We caught one of the early morning buses departing from the Geneva bus station to the Chamonix Sud bus station, where we transferred to a local bus to the La Flégère cable car station. The cable car ride to La Flagere lasted about 7-10mins, where we commenced our hike to Lac Blanc. The round trip hike to Lac Blanc took us roughly 7 hours to complete, with the split being 4hrs of ascent and 2.5~3hrs descent. We halted to our legs' content along the way. The heart though, felt content through it all! :)

BEST TIME TO VISIT

We timed our arrival around mid-afternoon, when the reflections of the gigantic French alps on Lac Blanc were perfect. The autumn of 2018, was a great time to visit. Fall colours had popped along the slopes and the weather was comfortable too!
